With 2026 being the 150th anniversary of Mothers’ Union, Norfolk and Waveney has planned a range of initiatives and events to commemorate rate this milestone.
Part of the celebrations has been the publication of a specially compiled book entitled “Grassroots”. This was launched at a shared lunch in Attleborough on February 7th and attended by members from across the diocese and beyond, as well as by representatives of some of the groups they partner with. These groups include Wayland Prison Chaplaincy, The People From Abroad Team, The Highcroft Trust and Leeway.
“Grassroots” is a collection of the personal thoughts, poems, prayers and experiences of just some of the members and friends of Mothers’ Union across the diocese, illustrating what it is to be one of those largely invisible people working with love and faithfulness within our communities.
Gathered and arranged into sections, with human lives reflected in the natural world and its seasons, this book takes the reader through the ups and downs of love and service in a changing world and leads Mothers’ Union from its humble beginnings to a new season.
The book, selling at £12, includes contributions from all twenty-three MU branches across the diocese and was compiled by Katherine Gray, a member of High Oak branch, with illustrations by Amanda Hart from the Fakenham branch. It is available directly from Katherine Gray and also from Norwich Cathedral and Wymondham Abbey shops and at 150th events throughout the year.
All proceeds from the book and from sales of Amanda’s original drawings will be used to further the work of Mothers’ Union amongst us.
